Megadermatidae

 

The family includes five species of insectivorous and carnivorous bats with distribution restricted to Africa, Asia and

Australia.

 

Ears are large and oval, joined over the forehead by a membrane. Tragus is distinctly bifid. They have strong muzzle and noseleaf is simple and erect. On each wing the second digit possesses one phalanx and the third digit possesses two phalanges. Tail absent.

 

As of yet, two species belonging to one genus are reported from South Asia.
